June 25, 2015 Trip to Ithaca, New York

Larry and I left Virginia on Thursday morning June 25 heading to Ithaca New York to visit several of our friends that live there and that we have worked with at Habitat for Humanity in several different locations.

We drove up my favorite highway, Interstate 81.   We were in virgin territory after we crossed into Pennsylvania.  Would you believe all of a sudden a HUGE black bear ran out of the woods across 3 lanes of traffic and did not get hit.  I don't have a picture because it happened too fast. We stayed in a Wal Mart in Dickson City, Pa on Thursday night .

Friday morning after having had a very good nights sleep, quietest Wal Mart I have ever slept in and after getting some book work done for Ally for her Co op we started on our journey.

Arrived at Larry and Tracy Saulsgiver's house about 1 pm.  Got the rig all set up in their driveway and started our visit.   Don and Beth Hickman came over for dinner and we started planning the things we wanted to see and do.   Paula and Rick Parker are arriving tomorrow to stay with Beth and Don and we will be doing lots of fun things.

Saturday we did a riding  tour of Ithaca College, Cornell University  and the other parts of the area that are of interest such as the smoke stack from Ithaca Gun Company.  We had ice cream at the dairy bar at Cornell and was it ever good.  We also rode by Ithaca Falls.    There are so many beautiful water falls in this area.  Dinner at Beth and Don's house.  It rained most of the day.

Sunday we went to church with Larry and Tracy in Trumansburg, stopped by the upper overlook of Taughannock waterfall.  After lunch we left for an outing to the Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport NY, then drove into Bath NY to the National Cemetery.  I did not know until Thursday when I talked with our friend Jack Beirer that his wife Irene was buried there but being that close we wanted to find her grave.  We did and it was special as they are people we met in Predio Key Fl in 2000.  Irene passed away last June.  Drove back into Watkins Glen and then to Montour NY to see the Montour Falls.   This whole area is the Finger Lakes.   There are 11 Finger Lakes but 5 large ones.  Back to Larry and Tracy's house for dinner.

Monday Tracy had to go to her last therapy session as she recently had knee surgery.  I made zucchini soup for our lunch.  Talked with Erma, from Dade City, and she is having her knee surgery tomorrow.  We met the Hickmans and Parkers at the Taughannock waterfall and hiked the trail up to the top of the falls.   Dinner at Hickmans with the crew plus Ed and Gail Austin other friends we met in Florida but they don't do Habitat.

Tuesdays was our trip to Corning NY to the Corning Glass Museum and Rockwell Museum.  Stopped for ice cream on the way back.

Today is going to be a down day with Tracy and me working on our Blogs, laundry etc.   The boys are working in the barn to re hang some things.  Going to Carol and Roy Barrire's(habitat friends) house for dinner.
