March and April 2015

I returned from Indianapolis on March 8th and have not stopped since.

March is the month that Habitat  has college students come down and work during their Spring Break.  Lots of these young people have been doing this for three or four years and really know what they are doing. Others however have never used a hammer and any other tool.We have had groups from Illinois, Maryland, Georgia and Texas.

We are still working on "the Big house" as I called it and hopefully they will get to move in sometime in April.

We have had lots of fun times also.  Visiting with friends who live here, having lots of Uno card games, lots of good food and now it is time to get back to the real world of eating better.  NOT so much junk food.

One of the most interesting things that has happened this season is that we helped birth kittens.   Boots, the resident camp cat, had a litter of kittens.   Now she has had litters before but for some reason this time she thought it would be nice to have Nikki (Joey's BETTER half) Joey being the construction supervisor, be in attendance.   We came back from work on a Friday afternoon, 2 weeks ago and it was apparent that she was in LABOR.   She would not leave me or Nikki alone. If we walked away from her she would swat us on the leg and go wherever we went.   Finally she had the first one right in front of me and she picked it up and ran under the shed.  Next morning there was a dead kitten by a neighbors rig and that night she brought another dead one out.   We looked and looked and last Sunday we actually found the remaining two alive out under a dead tree.   She let us bring them into the camp kitchen and we put them in a little cage and Nikki and I have been playing nursemaid every since.  We l have been letting  her in and out to nurse them.   Now that Nikki and Joey returned to their home I guess I am on my own.   I think I have found homes for them but they are still too young to take away from her unless the people bottle feed them.

We are working one more week and then heading NORTH>    Don and Beth Hickman are traveling with us to St. Marys, Georgia and on to Savannah for a few days.

We need to be home by April 11 as we have someone who wants to rent/lease our house for a year or maybe longer,

More later.
