Sumday, Feb. 23, 2014

We had a wonderful time in Homosassa Springs, Fl.  Got to see lots of manitee at the wildlife park and ate plenty of fresh shrimp.  Joey, one of the supervisors of construction in Dade City, and his girlfriend came up on Sunday and took us to lunch at a place on the Crystal River.  He also told us to go to The Freezer on Monday for boiled shrimp.    Some of the BEST I have ever eaten.
Tuesday we traveled on up to Mexico Beach, Florida and got set up in our campground after a harrowing experience on the road for a short time.   We came upon another RV traveling about 35 mph plus swerving all over the road.   We could not and would not try to pass this unit.   I finally called the FHP and reported it along with the license plate and they issued a BOE for it.    Finally the unit pulled off the road and we were able to move on.    Would you believe later in the week this unit came into the campground where we were.   It was an older lady, who was looking for a free place to stay, and the owner of the campground was very suspicious of her, saying she seemed confused, didn't have any money, etc.   You have to feel for people if this is really true but we have run into some really characters in our travels.
We had a wonderful time at Mexico Beach, enjoyed walking on the beach. riding our bikes and just relaxing.
Yesterday, we moved on over to the Gulf Shores Al. area were we plan to go to the Naval museum in Pensacola tomorrow.   Today has just been a lazy morning as we were awake at 4:30 am by a huge thunderstorm and it is still nasty outside. We are going into Foley Al in a little while to do a little shopping and take Sharon and Jeff to Lamberts, the home of the throwed rolls.   They have no idea what this is all about.  When you walk in and get seated they actually throw rolls at you.   Also during the coarse of the meal they like to play tricks on you different things.
We are here until Thursday and then go to Robert Louisiana so that we can tour the Abita Beer Brewery before going on to Thibodaux for about 3 weeks of Habitat Building.

I have tried to include some of the pictures so you get an idea what we do on these builds other than work.
We had a wonderful month in Dade City,Florida .   The Habitat Affiliate is just great to work for.,  So many changes for the better have been made for the Care A Vanners.  We had a great team of people to work with.  Some we had worked with before and some new younger one.

The Bus A Bus left Dade City Fla., yesterday morning and now we are going to have a little R&R.   First stop Homosassa Florida for a few days, then on to Mexico Beach Florida, up in the Panhandle , then on to the Foley Al, area for a little bike riding, visit to the Naval Museum in Pensacola, Florida and of course got to make a visit to Lamberts, Home of the Throwed Rolls.   Working our way to Thibodaux Louisiana for the next Habitat Build starting on March  9th. We will have some college students to work with and are looking forward to that as they seem to do the heavy lifting which us old folks are having more difficulty with. After Louisiana we have to return to Bainbridge, Georgia to help with the last of Carolyn and Keith Newberry's childrens wedding,   Hopefully Ally and family are going to be able to attend.

Tracey this is for you.   You still have figured out how to post pictures.   You used to do such a good job.  I just go up to the little picture by the word Link and "get it done".  LOL

Friday, Feb 7, 2014 Playing Cath Up

I just suddenly realized that I have not posted in a couple of weeks so I am going to try and catch up.

We moved into the Habitat Campground on Saturday, Jan. 17th and on Sunday most of the rest of the team for the next two weeks arrived.  Some were new people and some were old friends.,   The only draw back to this was that the new campsites for the people that come down for the entire season was not complete so there wasn't room at this campground for all the care a vanners.  Imagine my surprise when one of the couples told me they were from Orange Va., which is about 12 miles from our home in Louisa Va. and of course they knew my best friend, Jackie Edmonds.   I can't go much of anywhere without someone knowing Jackie.
On Monday we did not work as it was MLK Day and we all wanted to go to Webster to the FLEA Market which is only held on Monday.   Larry had to be sure he got a new black leather vest.
Tuesday morning we met for the start of the work week and found out we would be working on two houses .   The foundations were ready for us to start framing.  We worked three and a half days and had the first house framed up before the rain stopped us.   Now we also had to deal with 29 degrees one morning but also realize our family is dealing with lots more COLD than us.
One of the highlights of this 2 weeks was the Kumquat Festival.   We  enjoyed the pie, some of the fruit and all the vendors from everywhere.   Larry says we did a 2 in 1.  First and Last.
Jeff and Sharon Lawrence were the Team Leaders for this 2 week build and did a wonderful job.
Last weekend on Saturday people started to leave and we were awaiting new arrivals for the next 2 weeks that Larry and I would be the Team Leaders.Again met some new faces and some "old" faces.
We started working on Monday morning and started framing on the second house to be build.  Rain again a couple of days.
Today was a new experience.   We worked on a Woman's Build.   This is a fund raiser for Habitat and it is composed of all women, some who have built before and most who have not.  We have never worked on of these but were asked to go and be leaders and teach people how to build.   We worked about 3 hours before the rain stopped us.
We are suppose to do this again tomorrow but will know around 6:30 am if we are working or not due to weather.
Another week here and then about 2 weeks off to have a little R&R with friends  and then we are doing another Build in Thibodaux, La..  We will be working with Care A Vanners and also lots of college students.

I will try and keep this up better but after a day of working we usually hit the sack about 9 pm.
