March 25, 2014

I am sorry to say that it has been sometime since I updated the Blog but I do have a good excuse.  BUSY BUSY!!!!.

After a cold and rainy Fat Tuesday we started back to work with Habitat with 22 college students from Illinois.   A lot of work was somehow accomplished but not as much as we would have liked to have seen.  After all though they are down here for their Spring Break and they want to have some fun.  They enjoyed a Swamp Tour and a trip to New Orleans so that was good.

On Saturday March 8 and Sunday March 9th our Care A Vanners started to arrive.  Some we had worked with before and some we had not.  Everyone on this Build were great.   The new friends we met are going to be great friends and hopefully we will build with them again.   All in all it was a good build with a few trying moments.  We had lots of fun times with the group including a dinner at a couple's house in Thibodaux, John & Murray Dennis.  They have done this for a lot of years but never when we were there. It was a delightful evening and the food was great. Not Cajun but good old chicken and dumplings.    We had  another St. Patrick Day dinner of cornbeef and all the trimmings with the group at the campground. In years past we have gone to the parade where they throw vegetables instead of beads like Marti Garis but it was later this year so we had to buy the vegetables.   Also on the last day we celebrated Jeff Rothwell's birthday  with a cake.     We got a lot of work done, much more than the supervisor thought, as we ran out of materials on the last day of the Build and got to finish up early..  Now we have worked with Tony before so he should have known we would work hard and accomplish a lot.

Larry and I left Thibodaux on Saturday morning 3/22 and drove over to Robert La to the Yogi Bear Park where we had stayed before.,    I don't think either of us realized how tired we were so we did NOTHING  that afternoon.   Sunday we cleaned the motorhome and made a trip to Sam's Club.   Monday Larry worked on taxes all day and got that out of the way.

Today, Tuesday was a travel day and we are now settled in a park for the night.  The wind was really bad today so Larry is tired from fighting the wheel.
Not real happy with this park but it will do for a night.  Tomorrow we will be working on towards Bainbridge, Georgia where we will be helping get ready for Kadee Newberry's wedding on 4/5.  Excited that Ally and her family we be joining us for the wedding.  It is time to see those grands.

Tuesday March 4, 2014

my what a nasty day!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is "Fat Tuesday" in the Mardi Gras Season and we were planning on a big parade today but the weather proved otherwise.   When we woke up this morning it was 37 degrees and raining.   I have NOT been out of the motorhome at all.

After leaving the Gulf Shores area we traveled over to Robert La. to a Yogi Bear Campground and reconnected with our friends Kim and Mike McNabb that we met last year while at Poches Fish Camp in the Lafayette area.   We had a nice time with them and went to eat at a local restaurant called "Cooter Browns ".   Now I have heard the expression all my life about being drunker than Cooter Brown and have probably been that way a few times in my 69 years but never ate at his restaurant.  Had a wonderful shrimp po'boy. Kim brought Larry some farm fresh eggs of all colors.  She has lots of different chickens that lay colored eggs.

On Friday we traveled over to Abita Springs to go to the Beer Brewery.   What a fun afternoon.   Abita is brewed here in Louisiana and it done in lots of different flavors.

Saturday we traveled on to Thibodaux La where we will be for 3 weeks in the ghetto campground.   Trust me when I say ghetto IT IS !!!!!!!!!.   There isn't much to choose from in this area and since there are more than one of us we feel somewhat safe.
We are working for Habitat with a group of college students from Illinois this week and will have two more groups in the next two weeks.  It is nice to have them be here to do the heavy work.

Our Care A Vanner group will arrive on Saturday and Sunday.   Jeff and Sharon Lawrence are here with so already and Maria Small and Baker Bill ( not sure his last name).   Bill has a commercial oven in his unit and loves to bake bread, thus the name.

I will send some pictures later.
