A Little Sightseeing 2-27-09

We both have finally felt better so today we decided to take a little sightseeing trip to the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs, Florida.
They have a really nice museum and also a Carillon Tower, the world's largest tubular bell instrument, which plays daily concerts featuring some of Fosters music.
There is also a campground there and many picnic areas plus an overlook at the Swaunnee River.
Tomorrow we plan to visit Lee and Judy Young over at Dowling Park, Florida. Lee is my first cousin.
The weather was nice today and suppose to be nice again tomorrow but then go back to being cold on Sunday.
Got to visit with Lee and Judy for a while and then just had another lazy afternoon. There was lots of severe weather north of us and we did get some rain later Saturday night and awoke to colder weather and wind on Sunday. We left Live Oak and traveled into Georgia with the intent of purchasing propane and fuel but the Flying J was oh so busy. We decided that it was not worth the wait which would have been about an hour plus there was so much traffic in and out of there we were thinking someone was going to get HIT.
We traveled on to Bainbridge and got set up. It was so nice to get here and have cell phone coverage which we have not had here in this area for about the last 5 years. It is a shame how dependant we get on those phones but it is our life line to our family and friends. Thank you AT&T.
Today we are off to get haircuts and that in itself will make both of us feel better. I am going to have a dentist check out a tooth that is bothering me so hopefully it willbe a simple fix.

Later, Mem

We said we were going to have a "downweek" and trust me we are. Larry slept most of Monday and Tuesday which was probably the best thing for him to do and now he is feeling some better. The weather is somewhat warmer and he did say he saw several robins this morning so maybe Spring is coming. Live Oak Florida is a little too far North for us so next year after the builds in Dade City we WILL go south again.
Haven't done much other than work on taxes, clean a little, cook a little and rest.
I am going to try and post some new pictures of Ally's children as they are really growing up.

BACK ON THE ROAD

The Big A Bus was back on the road for a little while yesterday, Friday Feb.20, 2009 heaing to the Florida State Samboree in Dunnellon, Florida with about 399 other coaches. Lot of fun and fellowship and meeting more "old retired people"
We willhead on upstate on Sunday and have a"down week" to get some things done. Larry has to work on taxes and I plan to stay out of his way and get some knitting and reading done.
I had a great visit with Ally and her kids in Indianapolis. We got all the projects completed that she wanted done and she is going to have a large garage sale in May.
We finished our Habitat Build in Dade City and can't say enough good things about the people we met and the things that got accomplished. What a neat experience.
Now we are going to "play" until we go to the other build in late March in Georgia.
Also I am looking forward to the weekend of March 27 when my high school class of 1962 is having a "mini reunion" in the Atlanta area at one of our classmates home. I haven't been to one in several years and am so excited about this one.
Not much else going on with us so will catch up later.

Back to Dade City--- Feb 5, 2009

The Big A Bus came back to Dade City, Florida today. We had a wonderful time in Naples and now it is back to work at Habitat for Larry and I am going to Indianapolis to see Ally and her family for a week and then come back to work.
We had sad news today from our friends in Mason Michigan. Jimmy Switalski, age 39, son of our dear friends John and Judy ,died on Sunday Feb 1st. We don't know all the details as of yet but it was very hard for Ally and me today. They were in nursery school together and had remainded friends both having families of their own now.
I will update this after my trip to Indy.

Tuesday 2-3-09

Our weekend was a little less busy. We did go to a party at the clubhouse on Saturday evening. It was suppose to be outside but since the weather had turned cooler we had to move it inside. Sunday was a down day until about 5 pm when we went up to the clubhouse again to have a Super Bowl Party. Now most of you know that we are Steeler Fans and have been since the 70's ,when our friend Bobby Walden was playing for them, and have continued to be all these years and are now enjoying our two older grandaughters being Steeler fans. It was a good game but a heart stopper there for a while in the 4th quarter. There was a football pool here in the park so I put down some money on the $1.00 charts and $5.00 on the other chart and guess what ? I won $150.00 I had no idea what I was doing or the fact that I had won but what fun. Larry said that it would buy some disel fuel but he won't see that money. He also said to me "don't foget who brung you, baby" which is a favorite expression of our friend Jim Matheny.
Monday we went to Punta Gorda to have lunch with members of our Discovery Club and had a good time. Today has been grocery and catch up day before we move back to Dade City on Thursday. We are going out to eat tonight for PrimeRib. I just had to talk about food.
